Illness or Injury

An American citizen who requires medical attention or hospitalization can contact the Consular Section in Damascus for information on available physicians and hospitals. The Consular Section may not recommend any particular doctor, but can provide a list of several doctors and medical centers from which to choose. Consular officers visit Americans who may be in need of assistance. If requested to do so, the Consular Officer can also notify the family in the United States and communicate any requests for funds from home. The Embassy has no funds to assist with hospital or physicians' fees.
